Support our Soldiers on Red Cross Month

Children, their parents and other volunteers joined up with the Lincoln County Chapter during Red Cross Month to support the troops overseas.  These 14 volunteers created more than 200 beautiful cards, colorful drawings and inspirational letters for the soldiers.  They worked so hard on it that they took two weekends to complete.

The Catawba Valley Chapter prepared two sets of cookies and sent them off to Iraq for use by the Red Cross to give to service members coming into the Red Cross office in Balad.  In order to make sure that the cookies arrived fresh, they lined the box and each layer with bread and wax paper. Ken, the Red Cross worker and their contact in Balad is coming home this month. They have already prepared their future shipments to go to Afghanistan starting next month.

The Cleveland County Chapter has started a monthly program with the veterans in nursing homes within their county.  The program has been supported by dedicated volunteers who have enjoyed such activities as reading to them, passing out needed toiletries and other comfort items.  The volunteers are planning an ice cream social on Memorial Day in honor of their service.
